Cold Fusion - Twenty Years Later

Twenty years ago I came back from a trip to China only to see the two electrochemists below on the network TV evening news. Like many others, I bought some palladium and some heavy water (D₂O) and proceeded to do some electrolysis. I still have 100 mL of D₂O waiting.

The news program 60 Minutes had a segment on Cold Fusion that featured an interview with Mike McKubre. Unlike many of the time, McKubre did not denounce Fleischmann and Pons as junk scientists, but continued to try to duplicate and document the source of the "hit-or-miss" excess heat. It is obvious from the interview that he is now a believer!

60 Minutes also had an interview with Martin Fleischmann. It was sad to see what twenty years has done. Interestingly, two Fleischmann articles appeared recently (Ref 1, 2), apparently continuation of some work also going on in 1989.

In February 2009, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of this web site's debut on the web. 

Web site Improvements

It may not look it, but there has been substantial work "under the hood" on this web site.

Some readers wished to print pages on this web site for later reference. They found that the right side of the page was often cut off. We have revised many of the pages on this site to use CSS Level 2. CSS is used to suppress display of the navigation column and borders when the browser's "print" button is used to print the page. The main column of information should now fill the page with no losses.
